I recently had to cite several areas of federal guidance for one of GrantWin’ clients to explain why grant management policies and procedures are required, that they must be written, and other details an organization should integrate into its procedural documents.
I then realized the best way to share this little known fact is to host a webinar about this topic so, on September 19, 2024, several members of the GrantWin team and I hosted Federal Grants Policies and Procedures: Let’s Uncover What They Are and Why They’re Needed.
The turnout was more than what we expected. We did our best to share what we know, answer attendees’ questions, and delved into the intricacies of a topic many avoid.
If you did not know that your organization must have written grant management policies and procedures if it has federal grants, you are not alone.
Unfortunately, this is often the case.
What are the required policies and procedures?
There are up to seven required general procedural documents. Among others, grantees must have written policies and procedures that explain how they:
- Ensure costs charged to the federal grant are allowable
- Prepare and submit accurate financial reports to federal agencies
- Effectively monitor subrecipients, if applicable, and
- Ensure personnel costs charged to the grant are accurate and for grant-funded positions.
